Central Contractor Registration (CCR)
The Department of Defense (DoD) manages the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) used to manage a database called PRO-Net. In October 2002, the CCR and PRO-Net were combined into one database.
PRO-Net was an electronic gateway to procurement information - for and about small businesses. It's a search engine for contracting officers, a marketing tool for small firms and a "link" to procurement opportunities and important information. It's like a yellow-pages for government buyers.
The CCR is a database of all companies that have and that want to do business with the Federal government. You must be registered in this combined database in order to receive purchase orders and get paid by the federal government.
You get the benefit of both databases and only have to register one time - in the CCR.
